With Mailchimp’s 2018 rebrand came a completely new illustration style. The expressive, hand-drawn illustrations were a core element of its brand and helped ensure that they struck the right tone across the customer experience. The Design team had quite a few designer-illustrator hybrids, and we all worked closely to learn the new style together. During my last several years at Mailchimp I was the keeper of everything illustration. I art directed new pieces for Marketing use, built out and maintained guidelines, reviewed usage, and frequently created illustrations myself.
